Professor Stevenson joins Monash from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, where she is currently Vice-Principal (Collections, Music and Digital). In this position, Professor Stevenson’s responsibilities include oversight of St Andrews’ research resources, physical collections and digital content, culture and the arts, libraries, museums, theatres and performing arts centres, lifelong learning, digital education program projects, and its digital strategy. Professor Stevenson works directly on matters affecting UK research including public engagement, open research and commercialisation.
A cultural and political historian with research interests in elite culture and the exercise of power in late medieval Europe, Professor Stevenson’s academic accomplishments in the field include two books, three edited volumes, ten book chapters and five peer-reviewed journal articles.
Professor Stevenson’s academic qualifications comprise a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History and Archaeology, The University of Melbourne, and Doctor of Philosophy, The University of Edinburgh.
Professor Stevenson is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, the Society of Antiquaries of London, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and the Royal Historical Society. Current board appointments include editorial board member, The Conversation, Chair of the Recognised Collections of National Significance, Museums Galleries Scotland, Non-Executive Director, St Andrews Botanic Gardens, and member of the Arts and Humanities Research Council, UK. Former appointments include editor of Journal of Scottish Historical Studies, and editorial board member, Cogent Arts and Humanities Journal.
Professor Stevenson is an accomplished scholar, entrepreneur, senior university leader, and museum and arts professional. She brings a genuine passion for representing her institution and has been purposeful in her focus on developing industry partnerships embedded in postgraduate degree programs, and enhancing student experience through cultural programs to support extra-curricular experiences and opportunities.
Professor Stevenson’s experience, vision and expertise will be instrumental in the continued advancement of research and education excellence in the Faculty of Arts, and in contributing to the senior leadership team at Monash.
Professor Stevenson will commence in the role in mid-2022.
