EIT Water appoints Supervisory Board to guide Europe’s newest water innovation community

Leaders from across industry, finance, governance, research and policy join forces to steer EIT Water through its foundational phase and beyond

EIT Water has announced the appointment of its first Supervisory Board. EIT Water is the newest Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

The Board will provide strategic oversight and independent guidance as EIT Water establishes itself as Europe’s leading innovation community for the water, marine and maritime (WMM) sectors and ecosystems. The Board brings together a wealth of international experience spanning financial governance, water and ocean policy, blue economy strategy, climate finance, environmental regulation, sustainable development and higher education innovation.

Hedwige Nuyens, Chief Executive Officer of the International Banking Federation and Chair of European Women on Boards, has been appointed as Chair of the Supervisory Board. She brings over 40 years of international leadership at the intersection of governance, finance and policy, including a decisive role in the adoption of the landmark 2022 EU Directive on gender balance on corporate boards.

Water security is Europe’s defining strategic challenge of the next two decades – as critical as energy security and as complex as the digital transition. I am honoured to chair this exceptional Supervisory Board, whose members bring together deep expertise from across industry, research, innovation, policy and governance.
