About Aston Business School

Aston Business School is part of an elite group of world class business schools located at the heart of Aston University’s global community, welcoming students from over 120 countries.

As part of a campaign to build research capacity and diversity, Perrett Laver were engaged to support Aston Business School (ABS) in efforts to appoint five professors.

With triple accreditation and a focus on enterprise and impact, ABS is a one of the UK’s leading Business Schools for supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The School were keen to make professorial appointments across the School in the following areas: International Business, Economics, Accounting, Marketing and Human Resource Management.

Following a comprehensive global search, in which over 900 were contacted by Perrett Laver, 103 candidates were shortlisted across all five searches, from countries including Germany, France, China, Norway and the UK.

From these 103, the appointment panel selected 25 candidates to proceed to informal interactions and formal interviews. Following interviews nine appointments were made, including six professors and two readers. Of those nine appointed, 6 are female and 6 are from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Results & Conclusions

1.

Additional Appointments

The campaign was hugely successful, resulting in 4 of the 5 searches having double appointments making a total of 9 appointments.

2.

Diversity of Appointments

Of the total 9 appointments made,  6 were female and 6 were from ethnic minority background in subject areas which are traditionally male dominated.

We are extremely proud of our work with Aston business school to support the diversification of their faculty and build capacity at a senior level across the business school. The strong fields resulted in extra appointments and that is the result of great work from the team.
