University of Leicester appoints Neil Goulden as new Chair of Council

The Council is the University’s supreme governing body and is responsible for taking all final decisions on matters of fundamental concern to the institution, including the University’s academic mission and strategic direction. The Chair, which is an unpaid role, is ultimately responsible for ensuring the systems, structures, procedures and rules for running the University are fit for purpose and that the University is being managed effectively. Neil was selected after a competitive process which saw strong national interest in the role and a series of interviews and presentations with senior leaders before final ratification by Council.

Over the last 35 years Neil, who has a degree in Politics and Law, has had a successful commercial career as a CEO and Chair in the Leisure and Hospitality Sector. More recently he has devoted his time to social purpose organisations.

“I am inspired by the University of Leicester’s growing regional and international reputation. It has a clear drive to play a positive role in the city and the wider region and to provide a modern and diverse environment for students that is open, accessible and friendly.”
