Through individual stories, they gave advice to emerging leaders and articulated the impact and purpose behind their own call to actions and daily work. Leaning into growth moments when they present themselves was a common theme throughout the event as well as acknowledging the extent to which already existing leadership dynamics can hinder agency.
Being scrappy and persistent about pushing for transparency within organisational structures and asking for help were two tools which also were reiterated throughout the discussion. Ultimately, as an audience, we were reminded of our humanity and the raw power that is working and existing within environments that foster joy, happiness, and prioritise inclusion. Saba is the Chief Executive of The Advocacy Academy, a youth movement working to unleash the power of young people to create a more fair, just, and equal world. She has eight years of experience as a management consultant, including four years at the aviation and aerospace consulting firm – Seabury Group.
Saba has many years of experience in organisational growth, culture development and strategy, most recently in civil rights and grassroots organising. She is also one of the founding organisers of #CharitySoWhite, founder of a network for WOC in Impact Leadership, Treasurer of CitizensUK, and Governor of the Belham. She has an MBA from Wharton Business School, and a MSci in Mathematics from Imperial College London.
Claire Eadington was appointed CEO of the Patchwork Foundation in 2023 following roles in government as National Operations Director at Natural England and Head of Data Portfolio at the Central Digital and Data Office.
After studying Music at St Hugh’s College Oxford, Claire spent her early career in event management and business support for a variety of charities and arts organisations, and spent 8 years as a professional musician before pivoting into public service. She graduated from Patchwork’s Masterclass Programme for future leaders from underrepresented backgrounds during her first role in the public service. Away from work, Claire is a keen runner and completed an Ironman triathlon in 2022, raising funds for a foodbank in her home town of Blyth, Northumberland.
Farah Nazeer has been chief executive of Women’s Aid since March 2021. With more than 20 years of director-level experience in the charity sector, she has devoted her career to women’s rights and working to end violence against women and children. Farah has led Women’s Aid during a period of transition and significant growth, steering the charity through the unprecedented rise in demand for domestic abuse services presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prior to working at Women’s Aid, Farah served on the senior leadership team at Action Aid UK, working to end gender-based violence and ensure women’s economic rights. Farah also worked at Lumos, Bond, the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Women’s Institute. She was a local authority councillor for almost a decade working on local service provision, health, environment, and accountability.
Ebele Okobi was most recently the CEO of The New Humanitarian, the independent, non-profit newsroom that believes in journalism as a force for good. Before TNH, Ebele built a career focused working in business and civil society to bend the arc of the moral universe towards justice. She was a Venture Partner for Equity and Impact at Ada Ventures, built and led the Africa and Africa, Middle East & Turkey public policy teams at Facebook, was the Global Head of Human Rights at Yahoo, worked in brand at Nike EMEA, was an advisory services director at Catalyst in Amsterdam and the Bay Area, a health policy advocate at Consumers Union in San Francisco and a corporate lawyer at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York, London and Paris.
Ebele is a Trustee of the Young Vic theatre and a member of its Development Board, a board member for the Williamstown Theatre Festival, a Trustee of the Whitechapel Gallery, a Braemar Summit Committee Member, Chair of the Patron’s Board for John Akomfrah for the 2024 Venice Biennale UK Pavilion, a Chisenhale Gallery Council member, a Frieze 91 Committee member.
Ebele also directs the Chinedu Valentine Okobi Sabbatical Program, which funds transformative rest for Black justice leaders in partnership with the California Black Freedom Fund and Grantmakers for Girls of Color and was created by the Okobi family in honor of her brother, murdered by police in 2018.
Najwa is the CEO of Amna, and has held executive and non-executive positions.
She has 23 years of senior leadership experience in development and humanitarian organisations worldwide. She has overseen multiple aspects of these organisations, including strategy, finance, people and culture, operations, risk management, compliance, and fundraising.
Currently, Najwa serves as a board member of the International Rescue Committee UK, where she also holds the positions of Vice Chair of the Audit and Governance committee and member of the Safeguarding committee. Additionally, she was a board member of Medical Aid for Palestinians, where she contributed as a member of the Finance and Operations Committee. Her recent role before joining Amna was Director of Corporate Services at Money Advise Trust in London, UK.
Growing up in a small village in Lebanon in poverty during the civil war built her resilience and determination to work in international development.
